I've been in the sports betting game for a while now, but I'm looking to expand my horizons. What do you all consider the easiest sports to wager on?
Thanks in advance for your insights!
I'd say baseball is the gateway sport for betting. But your profile photo is a baseball player so I'll go for basketball. The structure of the game is less complicated, and so are their conferences and leagues. Its easier to keep track of it. Well at least for the NBA. NCAA basketball is just as fun, but as busy as college football.

Yup, I mainly bet on baseball. I might try betting on the WNBA because of the hype around Caitlyn Clark.
Basketball is the easiest sport to understand in terms of the rules. It has a simple format too. Maybe try pro basketball before college sports though.
Its a toss between baseball and basketball. Basketball has a very simple structure to understand. But when it comes to betting, baseball is pretty easy. Plus, the public for some reason believes that baseball is the easiest sport to EARN or WIN in. Why this superstition exists, I have no idea.
Always on the lookout for extra income so I can retire early. Got lucky with betting. Had I known, I should have learned how to become a college bookie. Maybe I would have been semi-retired now. Soon, though. Soon.
Now that Caitlin Clark's team has been eliminated from the playoffs, I'm back to betting solely on baseball.
Based on my experience, baseball is often considered one of the easier sports to bet on for several reasons:
Large sample size:
- MLB teams play 162 games in a regular season, providing a wealth of data for analysis.
- This extensive data helps in identifying trends and making more accurate predictions.
Statistical nature:
- Baseball is heavily statistics-driven, with numerous metrics for player and team performance.
- Advanced stats like WAR, OPS, and WHIP offer deeper insights for bettors.
Slower pace:
- The game's pace allows for more strategic betting, including live betting during games.
- Bettors have time to analyze situations and make informed decisions between plays.
Pitching matchups:
- Starting pitchers significantly impact game outcomes, making it easier to predict performance.
- Rotation schedules are known in advance, allowing for better preparation.
While these factors make baseball betting more approachable, consistent success still requires thorough research, disciplined bankroll management, and a solid understanding of the sport and betting markets.
There are a lot of factors here.
If you are betting on outright winners and outcomes, I'd go for Boxing and MMA since its very straightforward. The same goes for tennis- the rules are easy to understand, there are few players in the field, so its very simple.
I would argue that basketball is easier to bet on because getting NBA data is so easy. Since they are very popular all over the world, you are likely to find more game data, stats, and such, compared to American football or baseball.
Predictability-wise, college football has an edge here. Dynasties are very popular in the league, so you will likely see certain teams always maintain their spots in their respective conferences. However, this is all up for grabs now because of the huge NCAA reshuffle.

When I was just starting I opted for basketball since it was the sport I knew most about. Stuck to NBA though, because NCAA was a bit to complex for me with all the conferences and the like
It's a good thing the NFL is back. I find it easy to bet on football games because rosters are usually predictable, and teams release injury reports before the games.
